The flag of the United Kingdom has such a complex shape is no coincidence.

       Its history began after the announcement of the Union of England 

       and Scotland in 1603. Flag got by imposing the English flag of

       St.George (red cross on white background) on the Scottish flag of

       St. Andrew (white diagonal cross on a blue background).

       When in 1801 the Kingdom of Ireland joined, put the flag of

       St. Patrick (red diagonal cross on white background). 

       It is worth noting that some Welsh appeal put it on the whole web 

       and its symbol — the red dragon, but that would be unlikely.
